“Halal” is an Arabic term meaning “permissible” under Islamic law. When it comes to food and goods, Halal refers to products that are free from any components that are prohibited for Muslims to consume and that have been produced according to Islamic guidelines.
The Halal Slaughter Process
Halal slaughter is a religious and ethical practice rooted in Islamic principles, designed to ensure the humane treatment of animals and the spiritual integrity of the meat. It is not only about the method of slaughter, but also the entire process — from animal welfare to hygiene and handling — to meet the requirements of Halal consumption.
At Global Halal Trade Centre, we strictly adhere to these standards to guarantee that all certified products meet both Islamic and international expectations.
- The key requirements of Halal slaughter include:
- The animal must be healthy at the time of slaughter.
- A trained Muslim slaughterman must perform the slaughter.
- The name of Allah (God) must be pronounced before the cut.
- Slaughter must be done manually with a sharp knife, in a single, swift motion.
- The cut must sever the carotid arteries, jugular veins, and windpipe.
- All blood must be fully drained from the carcass.
- The animal must not be dead prior to slaughter, and stunning (if used) must be reversible and not cause death.
